Great Leaders provide Meaning and Purpose, which create motivation and a call to action to perform and grow! Motivating and inspiring others is what Great Leaders do. Simon Sinek captures this critical but elusive element of leadership in “Start with WHY.” As we develop strategic plans and process improvement initiatives we often focus on the “what” and the “how” without ever reflecting deeply (if at all) on Why? 

Why do our customers and clients choose us? Why do our employees and shareholders join us and why do they stay or leave? Do we know? Do we ask? Should we care? Sinek says YES, in fact, the first question we should ask ourselves is why are we doing this to begin with? When we begin to reflect on our Mission and Purpose, we drive meaning in our lives and our livelihoods through improved focus, perspective and clarity. Vision & Mission are the most challenging (yet important) components to building sustainability and scale in business. The book Start with Why is an excellent read for anyone and everyone in business or everyday life.
